Pistol, bullets seized

The Hong Kong police said on Sunday morning they seized a semi-automatic pistol, 105 bullets and other prohibited weapons suspected to be used by radicals in a demonstration held in the afternoon.

Senior Superintendent* Li Kwai-wah of the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau said it is the first time that a handgun has been seized related to Hong Kong’s demonstrations in recent months, and warned organizers and participants of Sunday’s demonstration to watch out for personal and public safety.

Brucellosis cases

At least 96 people in a veterinary* research institute in Lanzhou, Northwest China’s Gansu Province, were diagnosed with brucellosis* by Saturday noon, health authorities confirmed.

As of Saturday noon, 317 people at the institute had been tested, of which 96, mainly laboratory staff, were confirmed antibody-positive but with mainly recessive* infections and no obvious symptoms. The cause of the infection is still under investigation. Experts suggest that risk of human to human transmission of brucellosis is minimal.

Stable employment

China will take robust and multi-pronged* measures to ensure that employment remains stable. The government will scale up support for flexible employment, boost job opportunities for people with disabilities and tackle the stubborn issue of wage arrears affecting migrant workers with legal means.

Figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics last month showed that 11.93 million new urban jobs were created in the first ten months of this year, meeting the yearly target of 11 million ahead of schedule.
