Students with Meilin Middle School in Futian District voiced their feelings on coming-of-age and adolescence at the second edition of the school’s psychodrama competition that concluded recently. The students’ individual experience and originality shined through the psychodramas covering a wide range of topics, including team-building, family relationships, personal value, depression and more. They expressed their thoughts, shared their pains and unveiled their troubles to the audience, striking a chord with the crowds. Class 3 and Class 5 of Grade 11 won the first prize at the competition. Gu Chen, winner of the best actor prize, stated that students should not only convey their troubles in psychodramas but also ask for help from their teachers and peers to find new ways to solve their psychological issues caused by family and interpersonal relationships. A student surnamed Liao, who was among the prize-winning team of Class 3 of Grade 9, said she can now better overcome stage fright thanks to the experience. Psychodrama is a method of intramural psychological guidance in which students speak to their troubles and exchange their thoughts through performing arts, which can be seen as a form of group therapy.
