Archery promoted at traditional shooting competition in Luohu
    2019-12-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

罗湖区中小学举行传统弓箭比赛

Dressed in traditional hanfu, 120 archers from 12 primary and middle schools in Luohu District gathered at Yijing Primary School to present a display of bow-and-arrow finesse at a traditional archery contest, held for its second edition this year.

One hundred student-archers competed in the games using traditional Chinese bows, arrows and targets. According to Wang Dan, secretary general of the Shenzhen Archery Association, Chinese bows are lightweight and easy to use for the students. Wearing hanfu was also selected as the dress code of the event to enhance solemnity and facilitate a better understanding of traditional Chinese archery etiquette.

The number of schools participating in the contest doubled compared with the first edition of the contest. A total of 20 teachers also joined the students in the games.

The contest was hosted by the Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality and organized by the Shenzhen Archery Association.

Yijing Primary School is the first school in the district to introduce archery as one of its sports offerings. Grade 5 students at the school learn archery in physical education classes once a week.
