Gross errors on road signs
    2019-12-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

NOT a few citizens have reported that there are some upsetting blunders on the city’s road signs, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

On Dec. 22, a citizen posted in a local online community that a public toilet sign at the intersection of Yutian Road and Lianhua Road did not point in the right direction.

“I searched for quite a while and couldn’t find a toilet on Yutian Road by following the sign. Later, I realized that the toilet was in the opposite direction,” the citizen wrote in the post.

The reporter with the Daily went to the public toilet sign at the intersection of Yutian Road and Lianhua Road on Wednesday afternoon and found that the problem reported by the citizen was true. The public toilet is currently under construction and cannot be used.

The situation was subsequently reported to the urban administration and law enforcement bureau of Futian District. Staffers at the bureau took note of the sign’s location and said they would urge the department in charge of the area to deal with the problem as soon as possible.

A more careful search for relevant posts in the online community complaining about mistakes on road signs revealed that there were several types of incorrect signs reported by citizens, including incorrect names, guidance signs pointing in the wrong direction and incorrect current location indications on a map.

On Oct. 15, a citizen reported that the sign beside the pedestrian crossing at exit C of Cuizhu Metro Station was unbelievably wrong, translating “Neighborhood Committee of Cuizhu Community” into “Shenzhen Children’s Park.”

In another report, a citizen said that although the name of Luohu Foreign Languages School had changed, the school’s name on the sign beside the bus stop of Luofang Primary School remained unchanged.
