Painting exhibition, concert held at SUSTech
    2020-01-01  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A variety of art events including a large-scale oil painting exhibition and a symphony concert were recently held at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) to welcome the New Year and mark the university’s anniversary.

The exhibition opened on December 18 at the Linen Library of SUSTech and will run through January 7.

Themed “Painting SUSTech and Glorifying the Motherland,” the oil painting exhibition features four works that were created by some 30 teachers and students from the Art Club of SUSTech.

Elements unique to SUSTech are vividly portrayed in their works, including the school’s plaque, gymnasium, library and big banyan tree. The distinctive hues, shading and strokes characteristic of oil painting plus the painters’ inspiration, creativity and ideas showed the students’ and teachers’ love for the motherland and their alma mater.

On December 20, a symphony concert titled “Ode to the Motherland” presented by choirs from SUSTech, Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School and Shenzhen University was held at Runyang Gymnasium.

Conducted by Yao Feng, a renowned composer and vocal music educator, the concert invited young artists to perform accompanied by the Philharmonia Orchestra of Shenzhen Grand Theater.

They performed patriotic songs depicting the history of China’s development over the past decades.

“The concert is dedicated to the anniversary of SUSTech. With the concert, we want to express our blessings to our school and pay homage to our motherland,” said Li Fengliang, deputy secretary of the SUSTech Party Committee of the CPC.

“We hope to promote relationships and art exchanges between universities through the exhibition and the concert as well as many other events. These events are testimony to the comprehensive qualities of science and engineering students,” said Bi Baoyi, director of the art center of SUSTech and vice president of Shenzhen Musicians’ Association.
