Does technology get in the way of learning?
    2020-01-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Zhang Xin, Class 12, Senior 1, Shenzhen Xin’an Middle School Instructed by Shi Hui, Tang Ying

To many people, technology is amazing as it enables us to connect with people around the world. In my opinion, technology plays an important role in our studies.

Living in a world of rapid development in technology and science, we cannot imagine what a day without the use of technology would be like. It has become thoroughly interwoven into our daily life. For instance, with more people connected by mobile phones and social media, it is now easier to communicate with others. Seldom can we avoid being influenced by phones, and many of us try to escape its great attraction.

In many cases, technology makes learning more convenient with regard to accessing information. In addition, technology gives us a chance to have more access to the forms of sources we want, including the available message forums and other media that can be accessed without even leaving our comfortable bed. However, in the past, people would have to go to the library, only finding a fraction of the information they want after spending a lot of time there.

Students will benefit from developing technology. Technology enriches our learning experience, and integrating technology with education aids students’ chances of being able to improve their learning. Besides, technology has profoundly changed education. On one hand, a great many students depend on outside sources, and they search information and get what is required from the Internet. On the other hand, technology is the basis of modern careers, and school can assist students in improving their knowledge and skills in preparing for their future jobs.

Technology has also begun to change the roles of teachers and learners. The teacher imparts knowledge, and the learners receive it. Although this model of teaching is still used today, technology offers us much information and educational opportunities. In many classrooms today, we may see the teacher turn into a “guide” as students take more responsibility for their own learning by using technology.

Opportunities for communication and collaboration have been expanded by technology. Traditionally, classrooms have been relatively isolated, and collaboration has been limited to other students in the same classroom or the same building. However, now the walls of classrooms are no longer a barrier as technology enables new ways of learning and communicating.

In conclusion, technology is a powerful tool that can support education in many ways, from making it easier for teachers to create educational materials to providing new methods for people to learn and work together.
