World swimming athletes to make waves in SZ
    2020-01-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

The 2020 FINA Champions Swim Series, which was launched by FINA (International Swimming Federation) last year, will be held in Shenzhen this week before heading to Beijing this weekend.

Olympic and world championship medalists, FINA Swimming World Cup stars, world-record holders and global top-ranking athletes will be invited to the competition.

According to FINA’s website, participating Chinese athletes will include Sun Yang, Liu Xiang, Fu Yuanhui, Ye Shiwen and Xu Jiayu and international athletes will include Katinka Hosszu, Vladimir Morozov and Nicholas Santos.

Following the very positive feedback from athletes and coaches, the program of the series will include 28 individual events and two relays (the mixed 4 x 100m free and 4 x 100m medley) over two days of exciting competition.

Maintaining the popular 2019 formula, only the finals will be held, with four athletes per race. The competition will be staged in a 50-meter pool.

The sport performances will be held in an attractive entertainment show-style format, both for spectators on site and fans around the globe.

The main goals of this new international gathering are to give high-level swimmers increased attention and additional occasions to compete, thus generating stronger international TV, digital and media interest, and creating another world-class platform for swimming on a yearly basis.

The 2019 edition of the FINA Champions Swim Series included three meets in Guangzhou, Budapest and Indianapolis.
