District sets three missions for future development
    2020-01-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

FACING unprecedented development opportunities, Bao’an District has assigned itself three major missions regarding the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

According to the district’s blueprint, it will join hands with Qianhai to build a new city center of Shenzhen, build a world-class next-generation electronic information industry cluster and become a core engine of the integrated development of the Greater Bay Area.

The opening of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Intercity Rail last December further cemented the district’s position as a transportation hub in the Greater Bay Area, said the Daily.

The four stations of the Shenzhen section of the intercity rail, namely Shajing West, Fuhai West, Shenzhen Airport North and Shenzhen Airport Station, are all located in Bao’an, making it one of the biggest beneficiaries of the intercity rail that connects Guangzhou, Dongguan and Shenzhen.

The rail will further promote the flow and exchanges of people, goods and information in the Greater Bay Area, especially in Bao’an, according to Guo Wanda, executive vice president of China Development Institute.

Bao’an will also become the bridgehead of the Shenzhen section of the Shenzhong (Shenzhen-Zhongshan) Corridor. Relying on its advantages in transportation and strong industrial foundation, the district will focus on the development of the modern logistics and high-end equipment industries in the area around the Shenzhong Corridor.

The opening of Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center, which is billed as the world’s largest exhibition center, will also give a boost to the district’s convention and exhibition industry, said the Daily.

Bao’an is home to 49,000 manufacturing companies and more than 4,800 State-level high-tech enterprises. At present, the district has built a modern industrial system composed of the electronic information manufacturing industry, strategic emerging industries, advanced manufacturing industry, high-tech industry and high-end service industry.

Meanwhile, new energy has been injected into the district’s economic development. On Dec. 18, 2019, Bao’an signed cooperation framework agreements with Sunac China and China Resources Snow Breweries.

According to the agreements, Sunac China will invest a total of 36.7 billion yuan (US$5.33 billion) to build its Greater Bay Area headquarters and launch an ice-and-snow-themed cultural tourism project in Bao’an.

China Resources Snow Breweries also plans to build its headquarters in Bao’an, with a total investment of about 10 billion yuan.  (Zhang Yu)
