Per capita GDP

China’s per capita GDP will for the first time exceed US$10,000 in 2019, Ning Jizhe, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission, the country’s top economic regulator, said at a meeting in Beijing on Saturday.

China’s GDP is expected to near 100 trillion yuan (US$14.37 trillion) in 2019, with per capita GDP of more than US$10,000. It not only means the income of China’s people and enterprises has increased, but also marks significant progress in human history, Ning said. The World Bank’s data showed there were 1.6 billion people with per capita GDP above US$10,000 worldwide in 2018.

Spring Festival

During the weeklong Spring Festival holiday this year, 450 million people are expected to travel rather than returning to their hometowns, which has become the most popular way to spend the holiday for young people. The Spring Festival falls on January 25 this year.

This year, the Palace Museum in Beijing will celebrate the 600th anniversary of the Forbidden City, and experiencing a royal New Year in Beijing has become a hot choice. Besides, the Oriental Pearl Tower and Disneyland in Shanghai, West Lake in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, and the panda breeding base in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, are expected to see the largest numbers of visitors.

One-China principle

The Foreign Ministry on Sunday urged the international community to continue abiding by the one-China principle after the Taiwan leadership election.

“We hope and believe that the international community will continue adhering to the one-China principle, understand and support the just cause of the Chinese people to oppose the secessionist activities for ‘Taiwan independence’ and realize national reunification,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said.

3-D-printed implants

Doctors in Beijing have successfully carried out a surgical operation to replace three tumor-eroded thoracic vertebrae with customized 3-D-printed implants.

A 25-year-old female cancer patient underwent the implant surgery at Peking University Third Hospital on Thursday, during which tailor-made titanium alloy artificial vertebrae were used. (SD-Agencies)
