Substandard masks

THREE people have been detained for the suspected selling of substandard face masks for profit in Longgang District recently.

About 70 cartons of substandard face masks, totaling 48,000 pieces, were confiscated by Longgang police who raided a den after receiving a complaint from a man who found the face masks he bought on an online platform were tainted and their production dates erased.

Police are trying to retrieve the sold substandard face masks.

New virus detection kit

A NEW detection kit that can ascertain novel coronavirus pneumonia infection in 22 minutes has been jointly developed by researchers from Shenzhen University, Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital and Shenzhen Tisenc Medical Devices Co. Ltd.

Unlike conventional PCR (polymerase chain reaction) devices that require samples to be obtained by throat swabs, the new detection kit analyzes blood samples, which contain lower levels of the virus, greatly reducing infection risk for medical workers.
