TIGHTENED measures, such as closed-management policies and regular disinfections, have been implemented at construction sites across the city to prevent any possible novel coronavirus (COVID-19) spread as construction of some major projects resumed Monday, the Shenzhen Evening News reported yesterday.

The News said less than half of the project’s 1,000 workers returned to work at Shenzhen Middle School’s Nigang campus construction site  on Nijin Road in Luohu District on Monday. All workers wore face masks and kept a distance from each other while on duty.

According to project manager Chen Wujin, the construction site is now under closed management.

Temperature checks and registration are required for anyone going in or out of the premise, he said, adding that an isolated observation area has been set up in the dormitory area for workers who have recently returned to Shenzhen after the Spring Festival holiday.

Workers in the observation area will have daily body temperature checks and will only be allowed to enter the construction site to work after going through an observation period.

Chen said the contractor has designated a caterer to deliver food to each worker to avoid cross-infection when workers gather in the canteen for lunch or dinner.

Construction workers at the Sun Yat-sen University Shenzhen project in Guangming District are required to have lunch and dinner in their own dormitory or office after receiving food delivered by canteen staff, the News said, citing Cui Lixin, project manager of the project.

Cui said they have set up five observation areas of about 600 dormitory rooms for recently returned workers. They have also compiled a personal profile for each worker with information about their date of arrival and the province from which they returned to ensure workers returning from areas hit hard by the virus undergo necessary checks and isolation to prevent cross-infection.

Work on the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor has recently resumed, and by yesterday, more than 2,800 workers had returned to the construction site.

Body temperature checks, registration, strict management of the construction site involving controls on the entry and exit of visitors, as well as other measures were taken to prevent any chance of virus spread.

The mega-corridor and tunnel project involves nearly 10,000 people, according to Wang Qitong, head of the project’s management center. He expects another 6,200 people to return to work in the coming days, including 1,200 management staffers and 5,000 workers.
