WITH the COVID-19 pandemic not about to end anytime soon, TVB announced that it has decided to suspend this year’s Miss Hong Kong Pageant. In an interview, TVB executive Sandy Yu explained that “There were many unresolved issues. For example, every year, overseas contestants would return to Hong Kong to try their luck in the pageant. But now most of them can’t even travel. We too do not want them to take such a risk and come to Hong Kong.” Yu also expressed concerns for publicity and production activities of the pageant. “There are many public events and large-scale press conferences before the competition. Should the contestants wear masks? Other than the pageants, we also have many staff members on site. Since we considered so many issues without any solutions, we can only suspend it for one year,” Yu said. TVB hosted the annual Miss Hong Kong Pageant with great fanfare since 1973. This year’s cancelation will also mark the first time in history that last year’s winners will re-assume their titles for a second year.(SD-Agencies) |
