Christina, G10B, RDF International School When I was younger, I hoped that more children in less-developed cities in China can receive better education in the future. Also I hoped that when I grew up I can educate some of those children myself and give them the same education that they can receive in a developed city. Now I am preparing to fulfil my dream. A while back, I joined an organization which teaches children, in one of the poorest cities in China, some English lessons through online education. I was really excited about that, because each time I taught those children, I got one step closer to my dream. Before the first lesson, I got a little nervous but after I saw those lovely kids, I became more relaxed. It was a wonderful feeling when I was teaching them, even nowadays I still fall in love with this feeling. Although sometimes I might feel frustrated when I prepare for the class, because sometimes I struggle to find the most suitable material to teach them, I would still hope that I have a chance to teach more lessons. As time went by, I saw all of them make great progress which made me feel that I really did something in helping those children who are longing for knowledge. Although nowadays I do few things to help them, as the Chinese old saying goes, “unless you pile up little steps, you can never journey a thousand miles; unless you pile up tiny streams, you can never make a river or a sea.” It seems like I did nothing in those times, but when those things that I did are piled up together, I hope that it can really make a difference! |
