SUSTech to open April 27
    2020-04-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SOUTHERN University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) will start reopening April 27 and offline teaching will start from May 14, according to a notice by the university, Shenzhen Evening News reported.

The school will open April 27 and 28 for students from Hubei Province: all postgraduates and undergraduates who enrolled in 2016 and those who have had their graduation delayed.

These students are required to have a 14-day centralized quarantine in their dormitories and take the nucleic acid tests following the school’s arrangement.

Students from outside of Hubei, postgraduates, 2016 undergraduates and delayed graduates, will be arranged to go back to school May 12 and 13. They are also required to take the nucleic acid tests after returning to school.

The students will begin offline learning and have laboratory lessons starting from May 14.

Students in other grades will remain at home for online learning.

Students abroad (including undergraduates, postgraduates, exchange students and visiting students) are not allowed to return ahead of schedule, instead they need to inform the university about their trip information and health condition in advance.

Visiting postgraduates living in Shenzhen for 14 days that test negative in nucleic acid tests can return to SUSTech starting from April 18.

In preparation for the opening of the university April 16, teachers had drills in two scenarios, focusing on daily life and emergency, which included dining in the canteens and having final examinations.

In another development, many higher learning institutions will expand enrollment this September, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.

Shenzhen Technology University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which has a makeshift campus in Guangming District, will start enrollment for postgraduate students this year.

Sun Yat-sen University Shenzhen Campus will expand its postgraduate program, planning to eventually have 12,000 undergraduates and 8,000 postgraduates.

According to the city’s current plan, the number of undergraduates in Shenzhen will exceed 100,000 and postgraduates will surpass 40,000 by 2025.  (Han Ximin)
