Employees of Huawei Technologies and China Mobile complete the installation of the world’s highest 5G base station at an altitude of 6,500 meters on Mount Qomolangma (a.k.a. Mount Everest) on Thursday, taking 5G connectivity to new heights by bringing the network to the summit of the mountain. Together with the launch of the gigabit fiber optical network at the same altitude, Huawei has enabled China Mobile to run its dual gigabit network to the “Roof of the World.” Huawei said it has offered its end-to-end solutions in the construction of China Mobile’s dual gigabit network, where base stations were built at the Base Camp at an altitude of 5,300 meters, the Transition Camp at 5,800 meters and the Forward Camp at 6,500 meters. The 5G coverage of Mount Qomolangma is a historic breakthrough that will enable live broadcasts, 5G+VR tourism from the world’s highest mountain and provide a 5G network for mountaineering, scientific research, surveys and environmental protection.Courtesy of Huawei |
