SHENZHEN has seen tourism and retail sales recovering during the five-day May Day holiday, the first and longest holiday since the outbreak of COVID-19. Open spaces, like parks and beaches, and shopping malls, where consumers splurged to make up for reduced spending during the lockdown, were the main destinations for most locals. In that five-day period, public parks in town recorded a total of more than 1.6 million visits. Thanks to the retail coupons issued by various districts and shops, foot traffic and sales in Shenzhen have seen a significant rebound. The single-day visits on May 1 to the Dongmen Business Street in Luohu District exceeded 510,000, 60 percent of the visits on the same day last year. Compared to the average 3,000 visits per day at the height of the COVID-19 lockdown, the increase was 170 times as many visitors.(SD News) |
