Shenzhen students win intl. math awards
    2020-05-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Students in six teams from Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen received six awards at the 2020 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM).

The team of Luo Heming, Fu Letian and Chen Lingxu was designated a finalist for the outstanding winners, and the other five teams were awarded as the Meritorious Winners.

The MCM/ICM is the most influential contest in mathematical modeling, covering problems ranging from economics, management, environment, resources, ecology, medical studies, to security. Contestants are required to form into groups of three and complete work including modeling for a problem, finding a solution, verifying the solution, and writing a paper within four days.

Attending the 2020 MCM/ICM were 25,370 teams from 17 countries including China, Canada, the U.K. and Australia, and received contestants from renowned universities such as Harvard University, Princeton University, MIT, Tsinghua University and Peking University. With a rising number of contestants, the winner-contestant ratio has been reduced by 50 percent since 2019 and less than 25 percent of contestants can receive an award.
