The exhibition “Kartell Land — Celebrating 70 Years of Italian Design History,” which had been closed since January due to the COVID-19 outbreak, has opened this month but only on weekends in May and June. The organizers will adjust its opening days when the outbreak wanes in the summer. The exhibition showcases the past and future of Kartell, an Italian furniture brand, with a selection of products from the Kartell Museum and its symbolic products over the past 30 years. The show, with nine areas, tells the story of Kartell’s evolution, the values of its industrial production and its design through art installations. A leading design company founded in 1949 by Giulio Castelli and now run by Claudio Luti, Kartell is one of the symbols of Italian design that is known throughout the world. The basis of the company’s success is transforming its workers into artisans, and the ability to use the most advanced technologies to create beautiful objects from raw materials, along with the different types of plastic from which they are made, a “natural” alternative to glass due to their brightness, durability and affordability. On the basis of this philosophy, Kartell has also ushered in an entire line of items for the bathroom and for the table, covered with gold and silver paint.
