LOCKDOWN has brought out the best in people’s creativity, from makeshift children’s forts to outdoor climbing frames. But one couple in the U.K. decided to turn their DIY efforts to their beloved kitty. Jake Lambert and Jessica Atkins are proud parents to 3-year-old cat Richard Parker, who is currently housebound due to a foot injury. As a result, the pair wanted to treat their moggy to something enjoyable in lockdown, so came up with an idea to turn their house into a cat-sized art gallery. Lambert , a stand-up comedian, tells Metro.co.uk: “Parker isn’t currently allowed out because he injured his foot. He seemed bored and so were we. We thought we could all do with some entertainment. All cats require a lot of stimulation, and we thought he might enjoy taking in some culture.” Atkins, a senior veterinary nurse at the Royal Veterinary College, got to work on the project — which took around an hour in total to complete. The finished product featured 11 paintings — including cat-related works inspired by the Mona Lisa and pieces by Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet — and stretched six feet in total. “Enough for two cats to enjoy it whilst still maintaining social distancing,” jokes Atkins. The couple also made sure the gallery was as realistic as possible by including “no cameras” and “no eating or drinking” signs, as well as rope to section off the miniature pieces. It seems the gallery went down a treat with Parker, who thoroughly enjoyed soaking up the culture on display. Lambert says: “He loved all the portraits, especially The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo, probably because this particular version depicted the cat as a god, and we all know that’s exactly how cats see themselves.” Lambert later tweeted a photo of the finished gallery, with pictures of Parker enjoying the fine art it had to offer.
