6th Internet Plus Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition held at SUSTech
    2020-05-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

The sixth China College Students’ Internet Plus Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was concluded on May 20 at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), which saw active participation and intense competition from SUSTech students.

Eventually the “Zhibo Ultrasonics Technology Co., Ltd.” project stood out from over 100 teams and won the special prize. The first prize went to three projects and the second and third prizes to 12 teams.

Since its launch in April, the competition had attracted much attention from students and faculty members at SUSTech as well as alumni. It had received entries from 107 teams consisting of nearly 1,000 students. The panel of judges finally selected 19 teams for the finals, including 15 teams of higher education and four teams of red tourism.

Supported by the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of SUSTech and the Career Center, the competition serves as a response to the nation’s call for mass innovation, mass entrepreneurship and innovation-driven development. It promotes the integration of production, higher education and research and drives the deepening reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education at universities.

Many of the competition’s highlights were the projects presented by the teams of higher education, covering such areas as the oil and gas industry, organic chemistry, 5G base stations, smart health care equipments, real-time location positioning systems and logistics.

Teams of red tourism proposed their ideas and solutions for the development of revolutionary areas.

“The competition gives me an opportunity to review my research subject and I’ve learned a lot. I expect my research results can be translated into application,” said Liu Shuaiqi, member from the second-prize winning team and a doctoral student from the Department of Electronics of School of Engineering.

Liu Ke, dean of the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, said that the competition provided a great platform for students to build their entrepreneurial skills along the way. The School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship would also advance the philosophy of “Research, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship” to cultivate top innovative talents.
