Twenty families with children in Nanshan District made touchless trash cans at an online do-it-yourself event hosted by the Nanshan Innovation Park of Social Organization on June 5, the World Environment Day. Makers were invited to the live-streaming event to elaborate on why and how to classify the garbage, and how to use ultrasonic sensors to make touchless trash cans. Parents and children also posted their works and shared their reflections in the event’s WeChat chat group. “The event educated the kids on garbage classification and taught them how to make handicrafts from recycled materials that benefit the environment. Therefore, they can be more aware of and get more involved in protecting our environment,” said a parent who attended the event. The do-it-yourself event is a part of the educational activities on garbage classification and environment protection hosted by the innovation park to help celebrate World Environmental Day.
