Greater Bay Area directive published
    2020-06-17  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN has set up a leading group and seven task forces to push forward construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), according to a pamphlet on guiding the development of GBA published by the GBA Office of the Shenzhen CPC committee recently, according to a Shenzhen Special Zone Daily report yesterday.

Titled “Guidance for the Development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Shenzhen),” the pamphlet gives clear and brief explanations about spatial layout, key projects, key areas and supportive Shenzhen policy on construction of the GBA from perspectives including State strategies, core driving forces and social participation.

Shenzhen is speeding up construction of the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Cooperation Zone, Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone, Guangming Science City, Shenzhen-Hong Kong Port Belt, Xili Lake International Science and Education City and Shatoujiao Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Travel Consumption Cooperation Zone, according to the guidance pamphlet.

The directive also introduces Shenzhen policies in finance, employment, housing, talent introduction and education for the construction of GBA.

It stresses the importance of private participation in GBA construction and building Shenzhen into a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

The Central Government unveiled its Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in February last year, signifying a new milestone in the development of the Greater Bay Area. In August last year, the city was given a new role as a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

According to the new guideline, Shenzhen will become a leading city globally in terms of economic strength and quality of development, and by 2035, it will become not only a national model of high-quality development, but also a hub of innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity with international influence.

The Greater Bay Area comprises Hong Kong, Macao and nine cities in Guangdong Province. At the end of 2018, the total population was 71 million and GDP was US$1.64 trillion.
