Local intangible cultural heritage crafts people are exhibiting their latest works that address the theme of COVID-19 pandemic-fighting at the Shenzhen Museum. Entry is free but the museum requires visitors to book on its WeChat account “iszbwg” in advance.

On display are paper-cutting, dough sculptures, paintings inside snuff bottles, micro-carvings on walnuts and olive and straw paintings depicting nurses, doctors, scientists working tirelessly amid the outbreak and ordinary people promoting wearing masks and washing hands. All the exhibits will be donated to the museum after the exhibition ends.

The exhibition is part of the museum’s events marking the Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, which falls on the second Saturday of June every year. Last Saturday, Shenzhen Museum hosted an online shopping festival to promote local intangible cultural heritage products. Several Chinese intangible cultural heritages — Nan’ao zongzi stuffed with sea urchin, Chaozhou color porcelain, Beijing opera mask painting and Manchu embroidery — were featured in the festival.

The event is among China’s continuous efforts to enhance intangible cultural heritage protection and raise the public awareness of safeguarding China’s intangible cultural heritage. This year, the initiative also marks one of the latest steps to blunt the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy.
