Primary students residing at the mountainous Linguan Township in Zunyu City, Guizhou Province, received gifts from and a heart-warming visit before the Dragon Boat Festival Holiday that was paid by Shenzhen Project Care Organizing Committee Office. Staffers with the office managed to arrive at the Linguan Primary School, which is the most remote and elevated school at the township, amid a downpour on the dawn of June 22. Every student at the school received stationery and toys donated by Shenzhen-based enterprises. The supplies included 30 student tablets valued at more than 80,000 yuan (US$11,317); sports kits including footballs, basketballs and table tennis balls; 20 boxes of Lego building bricks; and 83 sets of school supplies for every student at the school, which included schoolbags, notebooks, watercolor pens, and painting sticks. In another development, a multimedia classroom jointly initiated by the office and Shenzhen NWY Group Ltd. (NWY), the donor of the tablets, was inaugurated at the school. A grade 4 student surnamed Ren experienced practicing calligraphy on a tablet, and was amazed by the texture of the touch screen while writing. According to Peng Guoyuan, president of the group, the tablet is the designated device for the online classes developed by NWY and has been accredited by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province as a smart teaching tool for K12 education. Teachers at the primary school will also be trained to use the tablets, according to officials of local education departments at both county and township levels and the headmaster of the school. By June, counties and townships within the jurisdiction of Zunyi City have experienced the assistance of a total of 100 volunteer teachers from Shenzhen Project Care and the donation of a total of 2,000 student desks and chairs from the workshop of Sun Ying, a veteran Shenzhen-born volunteer teacher who has for years dedicated his efforts toward teaching students in remote areas.
