Aussie cat survives 12-min cycle in washing machine
    2020-07-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A BURMESE cat named Oscar miraculously survived a 12-minute cycle in the washing machine after owners didn’t realize he’d fallen asleep inside.

The 2-year-old cat had wandered into the washer for a quick nap only to be stuck inside for a grueling 12 minutes on a hot wash with detergent.

Oscar’s owner, Amanda Meredith, who lives in Mudjimba in Australia first realized what had happened when she heard a peculiar meowing sound, after her husband Angelo had loaded their bed sheets into the washer.

Initially Amanda thought the whining was coming from the cupboard, so she went to hang out another load of washing thinking nothing of it.

But when she came back inside and Oscar was no where to be seen, she started frantically searching the house.

That was the moment she realized her furry friend was stuck inside the machine.

She said: “The poor little cat had his hands on the glass as he was doing the rotations and he was looking at me.”

It took a further two minutes after the machine had come to a stop and drained for the door to unlock.

The following six hours were touch-and-go for the Burmese according to her vet, Dan Capps, who works at Coolum Beach’s Beachside Veterinary Surgery.

Thankfully, Oscar survived the ordeal with only a few bumps and bruises from the hard fins in the machine.

But Dr. Dan said incidents like this aren’t unusual, with this not being the first time it has happened.

He explained that during the colder weather it’s normal for cats to try and hide somewhere warm to nap.

Oscar stayed with the vet for 24 hours so that Dr. Dan could check up on him.
