Mt. Wutong to have a ‘sea’ of flame trees
    2020-07-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE renovation project for the main entrance of Wutong Mountain is on schedule, and once complete, a scenic spot of flame trees will be a central theme, a source from Wutong Mountain Management Center said Monday.

Xiantong scenic spot, where the planned main (south) entrance to Wutong Mountain is located, is a key construction project in Shenzhen.

It faces Luosha Road to the south; Wutong Mountain South Road is to the east and Wutong Mountain is to the north.

The south gate, leading to the Xiantong scenic spot, will be close to Wutong Mountain South Station on the upcoming Metro Line 8, according to DT News app.

The gate is almost finished, and is designed in the shape of a phoenix.

A square featuring flame trees will be built at the south entrance which means a wide range of flame trees will be planted there.

The flame tree is one of the world’s most colorful trees. Every spring, the tree produces clusters of long-lasting orange-red blooms. Each bloom, which measures up to 13 centimeters across, displays five spoon-shaped petals.

Wutong Mountain has already enjoyed a world-class reputation for its azalea (rhododendron) fields, according to the report. More than 50,000 azalea trees of over 700 species have been introduced to Wutong Mountain in the past three years. And a total of 50,000 rhododendron moulmainense, a species of rhododendron, has been growing in the 42-square-kilometer Wutong Mountain Park.

A project to raise the quality of the forest surrounding Wutong Mountain is also under way. The project aims to improve the ecological environment and the scenic beauty by clearing dead and dying trees and planting more native tree species, including flame trees. (Chen Siqi)
