Technology is a double-edged sword
    2020-07-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

The 21st century is the age of science and technology. Nowadays, technology is everywhere around us and it not only has influence on life, but also on learning. In my point of view, technology gets in the way of learning. The following are my reasons.

Firstly, mobile phones make us waste a lot of time, which has had a bad influence on our health. Nowadays, most students have mobile phones, and they use them to watch TV, listen to music or play games. It wastes a lot of time, which stops them from concentrating on their studies. In the long run, it will form a habit of dependence.

Additionally, some students even play mobile phones all day and all night. They stay in their room all day without going out, which is terrible. I think that using mobile phones for a long time is bad for our eyes, and as a result, our eyesight will decrease.

Secondly, there will be some useless and bad information online. These days, people like surfing the Internet to look for information, and there will be a lot of information in front of you. Maybe you can find the information which you are looking for, but a lot of times, it’s useless information. In addition, some bad information may mislead the young learners who don’t have the ability to tell right from wrong. Moreover, it may also affect the physical and mental health of learners.

As the saying goes, “Every coin has two sides.” Although technology has its disadvantages, it also has many advantages. For example, technology promotes learning. From the way of learning, on one hand, it helps students move from passive learning to active learning.

On the other hand, the students’ learning style changes from the original oneness to diversity. Additionally, technology also makes our lessons more interesting and clear. In the past, teachers could use only chalk and blackboard to give lessons. It wasted a lot of time, and students might not understand clearly. However, teachers nowadays can use PPT to show pictures and videos. In this way, students can learn more easily and better.

All in all, technology is a double-edged sword. Therefore, we are supposed to use technology correctly and make full and effective use of it to promote learning and try to avoid and overcome the obstacles of technology in learning in order to have a wonderful tomorrow.
