Polish president wins second term

Polish President and presidential candidate Andrzej Duda addresses his supporters following the announcement of the presidential election’s exit poll results in Pultusk, Poland, on Sunday. Trump wears mask in public for first time

U.S. President Donald Trump wore a mask during a visit to a military hospital on Saturday, the first time the president has been seen in public with the type of facial covering recommended by health officials as a precaution against spreading or becoming infected by the novel coronavirus.

Trump flew by helicopter to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in suburban Washington to meet wounded servicemembers and health care providers caring for COVID-19 patients. Trump was wearing a mask in Walter Reed’s hallway as he began his visit. He was not wearing one when he stepped off the helicopter at the facility.

Dozens of US Marines in Japan get coronavirus

Dozens of U.S. Marines at two bases on the southern Japanese island of Okinawa have been infected with the coronavirus in what is feared to be a massive outbreak, Okinawa’s governor said Saturday, demanding an adequate explanation from the U.S. military.

Gov. Denny Tamaki said he could say only that a “few dozen” cases had been found recently because the U.S. military asked that the exact figure not be released. The outbreaks occurred at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, which is at the center of a relocation dispute, and Camp Hansen, Tamaki said.

Local media, citing unnamed sources, said about 60 people had been infected. “Okinawans are shocked by what we were told (by the U.S. military),” Tamaki said.

Harvard, MIT seek halt to rule on intl. students

Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology sued the Trump administration last week, seeking to block a new rule that would bar foreign students from remaining in the United States if their universities move all courses online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The two universities filed a lawsuit in federal court in Boston asking for an emergency temporary restraining order on the directive issued by the government.

“We will pursue this case vigorously so that our international students — and international students at institutions across the country — can continue their studies without the threat of deportation,” Harvard President Lawrence Bacow wrote.

Brazilian leader tests

positive for COVID-19

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro says he is confident that he will swiftly recover from the new coronavirus thanks to treatment with hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malaria drug that has not been proven effective against COVID-19.

Bolsonaro said he tested positive for the new coronavirus Tuesday after months of downplaying its severity while deaths mounted rapidly inside the country.

Funeral for Seoul mayor to be held for 5 days

The funeral for Park Won-soon, the longest-serving mayor of South Korea’s capital, will be held for five days after he was found dead on a Seoul mountain, the city government said on Friday.

Park’s funeral will last for five days in the fashion of a mayoral funeral, unlike a three-day general funeral. A memorial altar was set up in front of the City Hall in central Seoul on Friday afternoon to allow citizens to mourn his death.

The 64-year-old mayor was found dead in the woods of Mount Bugak near his residence around midnight Friday local time. No sign of foul play was found, but the police are investigating the exact cause of his death.(SD-Agencies)
