An unforgettable day
    2020-07-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Recently, influenced by the outbreak of the coronavirus, many schools transitioned their traditional teaching mode to remote instruction.

As a result, last Friday, I studied at home via the internet and also received some different assignments for learning.

In the morning, I did some reading exercises on a website called “Read Theory,” which was required by my English teacher. Being accustomed to finishing the tasks as early as possible, I passed 20 reading quizzes in three days, which could have been finished in two weeks.

Then I went on to do the exercise. I couldn’t pass the last quiz which I was scheduled to take. I worked so hard on it but I didn’t succeed. I was really mad at myself and felt a headache, and I couldn’t even join the other classes properly. Feeling very upset, I decided to run on the treadmill to shift my focus. Fortunately, I eased my mind and realized that I should figure out how to solve the problems I met rather than be controlled by my emotions.

So I went back to my reading desk and engaged in the reading materials again. That morning, I found a good way to deal with my negative feelings, which helped then and will definitely benefit me throughout my lifetime.

At noon, my mother went out for a business meeting. I used my phone to order the delivery of a meal. That was my first time to order takeaway. Due to my carelessness, I forgot to bring the key with me when I went out to pick my food. As a consequence, I couldn’t enter the house. So, I had to take off my face mask and ate some of it on a bench in the garden, waiting for my mom’s arrival.

What’s more, during that evening, I knew that I got a zero on a writing assignment for my English class. That was because I gave my paper to others and someone copied it. So I had to rewrite it and was warned by my teacher.

Writing a letter to beg my teacher’s forgiveness, I reviewed my improper behavior to help my classmates cheat which also made me dishonest. As an old saying goes, lies have short legs. Cheating others benefits us nothing, so we should tell a lie at no time.

What an uncomfortable Friday! I learned a lot from that day. Not only had I learned how to control my emotions, but also I became aware of the significance of being an honest man.
