Beatrice becomes first princess to be a stepmother
    2020-07-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

BRITAIN’S Princess Beatrice and Italian property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi married last Friday in a private Windsor ceremony attended by her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, and fewer than two dozen others, Buckingham Palace confirmed to the Daily News.

Social distancing was practiced at the small ceremony, which replaced a grander affair planned earlier in the year.

The marriage at Windsor Great Park’s All Saints Chapel, about 5 miles (8 kilometers) south of the monarch’s residence of Windsor Castle, came two months after the couple had originally planned to marry May 29. The original ceremony was postponed due to the novel coronavirus.

“The private wedding ceremony of Princess Beatrice and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi took place at 11 a.m. Friday 17th July at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor,” a Buckingham Palace statement read.

Besides the Queen, the nearly 20 friends and family in attendance also included her husband Prince Philip “and close family,” according to the statement, which noted the ceremony was held “in accordance with all relevant government guidelines.”

The COVID-19 pandemic forced the princess, 31, and Mozzi, 36, to scrap their original plans to tie the knot in front of 150 guests at St. James’s Palace in London. The couple previously intended to hold a reception at the Queen’s gardens at Buckingham Palace.

The low-key wedding was a far cry from a traditional royal affair, with the bride even opting to wear a second-hand dress.

The Princess of York raided the Queen’s wardrobe and chose to borrow a dress her grandmother had first worn back in 1961.

The gorgeous white satin gown features a waterfall of intricate beaded embroidery from the bodice to the mid-thigh.

The sleeveless dress also has embellished shoulder straps and additional beading at the waist.

The royal bride, 31, chose to add her own personal touch to the dress by having a pair of sheer, puffed sleeves sewn into the straps.

Beatrice also had the underskirts removed opting for a simple silk trim on the hem rather than the puff-ball skirt her grandmother wore.

The dress was the creation of Norman Hartnell, a designer loved by the monarch.

As well as the dress, Beatrice also borrowed a tiara from the Queen’s jewelry collection as is custom for royal brides.

However, it wasn’t just any tiara, it was the same tiara worn by the Queen when she married Prince Philip back in 1947.

Her Majesty wore the gown along with a fur stole and a ceremonial sash at a state dinner held in honor of the then Italian President Giovanni Gronchi at the British Embassy in Rome on May 4, 1961.

Beatrice is the only princess to marry a partner who already has a child.

The only royal family member of the previous generation to find themselves in the same position was Prince Charles.

When he married Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005, Charles became stepfather to her son Tom and daughter Laura.

This also meant Camilla became a stepmother to Prince William and Prince Harry.

Millionaire property tycoon Mozzi was previously engaged to Harvard-educated architect Dara Huang — mom of his young son — and popped the question in 2015.

However, the romance wasn’t to last with Mozzi breaking up with DH Liberty-founder Huang around six months before he started dating Princess Beatrice.

A source told Fabulous Digital: “Almost overnight, Chinese-American fiancee Dara became Edo’s ex-fiancee.

“The talented Harvard-educated architect had been planning her idyllic wedding to Edo but was unceremoniously dumped.”

Beatrice has been going out with Mozzi, who specializes in discreetly developing multi-million-pound homes for rich clients, since around the time of Princess Eugenie’s wedding in October 2018.

A source spoke to Fabulous Digital about the couple’s early days, and said: “Beatrice was delighted to find herself in the company of easy on the eye Mozzi and they started dating under the radar almost immediately.”

Beatrice shacked up with the businessman and introduced him to royal relatives — leaving Huang sleeping on a pal’s sofa.

Mozzi has now moved in with Beatrice at St. James’ Palace and also impressed her parents after joining them at the Bahrain Grand Prix last April.

They’ve even been to weddings together, including in Tuscany last July, and stayed in one of his family’s houses in Kenya at the beginning of last year.

They went public with their relationship in March 2019, after Princess Beatrice attended a charity fundraiser at the National Portrait Gallery with her new beau.

Descended from Italian nobility, Mozzi is a Count whose father Alex was an Olympic skier in the early 1970s.

Mozzi has been a family friend of the Yorks for years and when his stepfather Christopher Shale — a close friend of former Prime Minister David Cameron — died in 2011 at Glastonbury, Andy, Sarah, Beatrice and Eugenie all went to the funeral.

Beatrice and Uber executive Dave Clark dated for almost 10 years after Prince William introduced them at a birthday party. They split in 2016 and the split was thought to be over the princess’ keenness to wed.

The princess began dating Mozzi in 2018. The two got engaged in 2019 with a ring Mozzi designed worth an estimated US$100,000.

Daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah, Duchess of York, Princess Beatrice is Queen Elizabeth’s fifth grandchild and ninth in line for the British throne. She’s the second woman in the line of succession. Princess Charlotte is the first.

She has an estimated net worth of US$4.6 million and “works full time in business,” according to the royal family.

That fortune reportedly comes from royal trust funds as well as from accounts set up after Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson divorced in 1996.

Beatrice has had a varied professional life since she finished her BA in History and History of Ideas at Goldsmiths College, London.

She volunteered as a sales assistant at Selfridges for a stint in 2008 and also worked at the government’s Foreign Office in the press office for a stint, where she declined a salary.

In 2008 she was reportedly interested in pursuing a career at the Financial Times.

Then in 2015, Beatrice moved to New York, where she started working as a research analyst at a boutique private wealth company.

This set her on her path to success, with stints as an associate at Sandbridge capital equity firm, and as a business development associate at Sony pictures television.

Now, she is the vice president of partnerships and strategy at Afiniti, a groundbreaking U.S. data and software company with a focus on developing artificial intelligence for use in customer call centers, where she is described as a “business matchmaker” connecting startups.

On her copay profile, she goes by the name Beatrice York.

She works full time and splits her time between London and New York.

In addition to her career, Princess Beatrice serves as a patron to many nonprofits.

She’s a global ambassador to Street Child, a nonprofit founded by her mother in 1993.

She supports Children in Crisis and Teenage Cancer Trust, among others, and meets renowned changemakers through her charity programs.

While Beatrice claims a salary from her job, she also receives money from her family.

Her father Prince Andrew “supports both of his daughters financially from his private income,” according to his website.

She’s the first member of the royal family to ever complete the London Marathon in 2010 as part of a 34-person human caterpillar to raise money for charity.

However, many states do allow voters to simply write in the name of a candidate on their ballot sheet - these are called “write-in candidates”.

If West wasn’t able to get on the ballot in time, he would be able to rely on this.
