Best big brother: 6-year-old boy rewarded for saving little sister
    2020-07-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A young boy from Wyoming, the United States, found himself in the public spotlight after he saved his little sister from a dog. Bridger Walker’s aunt shared his story on social media — getting the attention of millions, including celebrities.

Walker got to talk to many of the actors in the popular movie series “The Avengers.” He even got a shield from the movie from Captain America himself, actor Chris Evans.

To many, meeting a superstar is a dream, but we’ve all heard the phrase “like a kid in a candy store.” To a 6-year-old boy, not much else tops free candy.

Walker and his siblings got US$400 from It’Sugar in Denver to spend on whatever they want. They didn’t hold back.

“I got some jawbreakers and gummies and Sour Patch Kids head,” said Walker.

If anyone deserves it, it is probably Walker. Almost one month ago a dog lunged at his 4-year-old sister at a friend’s house.

He stepped in front of the dog to protect her. The dog bit his face requiring him to need surgery and a lot of stitches. Their parents, Robert and Teila Walker, say that is just the kind of brother Walker is.

“It didn’t surprise us at all. He’s always been very protective of his little girl,” said the father.

This shopping spree is just the latest reward the family received after their story got international attention. Walker loves rocks and has been getting rocks sent to him from all over the world. Besides the authentic Captain America shield from Evans, Iron Man aka Robert Downey Jr. offered to pay him a visit. Adding to the list of sweet surprises, WBC sent Walker an Honorary Champion belt to congratulate him.

“We never expected any of this to go viral the way it did,” the father said.

Walker has received gifts of support from all over the world. But his parents say the attention hasn’t gone to his head.

“I actually asked him the other day, you know, ‘Does this make you any more special?’ And he said no. I said, ‘What makes you special?’ He said, ‘I’m me.’ And, that meant a lot to us,” Robert Walker said.

So the sugar rush may be the latest chapter for this little hero, one the family is so thankful.

“The world’s a good place and there’s hundreds and thousands and millions of wonderful people in this world,” Robert Walker said.

And this experience Walker and his siblings can all share together.

“We’re close, and this experience has definitely made us closer,” Robert Walker said.

A couple weeks ago all the family could do was want to lift Walker’s spirits. Now, all he does is smile and his bravery lifts the spirits of others around the globe.
