How to recite a story
    2020-07-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Xu Xinyue, Class 14, Senior 2, Shenzhen Xin’an Middle School Instructed by Tang Ying

Tang taught us a series of highly effective strategies to systematically help us learn English easily and achieve maximum results with little effort. Her purpose of the lesson was to teach us how to learn and recite “Lesson 34: Quick Workfrom Book 2” of “New Concept English.”

We learned how to understand the text and recite it. She also encouraged us to take advantage of every chance to speak English. In the future, we can speak English with good pronunciation and intonation.

First, Tang told us to listen to its recording, paying attention to the words’ pronunciations and the sentences’ intonations as well as underlining the tenses used in the article.

After that, Tang asked us to explain the different tenses and what they express. After listening for three times, Tang asked us to stand up and imitate reading the passage sentence by sentence.

She demonstrated in order to let us know where to pause and where to read words together. Through imitating, we acquired good pronunciation and intonation.

After understanding this article, we began to discuss what makes up the story. Inspired by her words, we summarized the article by using the 5W and 1H (who, what, when where, why, how). In this way, we understood the content of the passage and mastered its writing skills.

Then, we recited the story. Tang presented it sentence by sentence in Chinese and we said the English sentences one by one to see who could do it best. I felt that I had thoroughly understood this article.

Next, we practiced reciting the lesson by ourselves according to 5W and 1H and I found reciting the story became a piece of cake.

In the end, Tang asked us to recite it in front of the whole class and two students recited it very well. It was amazing that we could recite it in such a short time.

I found that learning English was not difficult after the class. It is really a quick way to master authentic English. Learning English has become a pleasant thing for me.
