Xinjiang registers 89 new cases
    2020-07-30  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

NORTHWEST China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region reported 89 newly confirmed local COVID-19 cases Tuesday, the regional health commission said yesterday.

The 89 patients were all in the regional capital Urumqi, 43 of whom were previously asymptomatic cases, according to the commission.

The national health authority said yesterday that it received reports of 101 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Tuesday, including 98 locally transmitted cases and three imported ones.

Among the locally transmitted cases, apart from Xinjiang’s 89 cases, eight were reported in Liaoning Province, and one in Beijing, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

Beijing’s new case is a close contact of a confirmed case reported Monday in the capital. Monday’s case reportedly had a meal with an asymptomatic case from the city of Dalian, Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, on July 18 before traveling to Beijing by train the next day.

Hong Kong’s Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported 118 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in Hong Kong above 3,000.

The newly reported cases, including five imported cases and 113 local infections, brought Hong Kong’s total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 3,002.

Among the 113 local cases, 67 cases are related to previously confirmed cases, mostly clusters concerning gatherings of families or friends, while the source of infection of the other 46 cases remained unknown, Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the CHP’s Communicable Disease Branch, said at a media briefing yesterday afternoon.

Sara Ho, a chief manager of Hong Kong’s Hospital Authority, said at the briefing that the occupancy rates of negative pressure rooms and isolation beds in public hospitals have risen to 80 percent and 78.4 percent respectively. (Xinhua)
