Courteney Cox returns for ‘Scream 5’
    2020-08-03  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

COURTENEY COX is set to reprise her role as the dogged news reporter Gale Weathers for Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures as they relaunch the “Scream” franchise.

The “Friends” star confirmed the news in an Instagram post on Friday.

Cox joins the previously announced David Arquette, her ex-husband, who also returns as Dewey Riley.

“Scream” as a horror franchise generated four movies, released in 1996, 1997, 2000 and 2011 respectively, all directed by the late Wes Craven and together grossing over US$600 million in worldwide box office receipts.

Written by Kevin Williamson, the “Scream” franchise focused on a young woman in a small town who becomes the target of a killer who wears a mask inspired by the Edvard Munch painting “The Scream.” The killer would later become known as GhostFace.

Production on the “Scream” reboot will shoot in Wilmington, North Carolina later this year, with additional casting under way. Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct the upcoming installment.
