China on Monday released a list of recommended candidates for highest State honors, and invited public opinions about it, according to a working committee on the Party and State medals and honorary titles.

Zhong Nanshan, who has been committed to the study, prevention and treatment of major respiratory diseases and significantly contributed to the COVID-19 fight, was recommended for the Medal of the Republic nomination, said the working committee. Zhang Boli, Zhang Dingyu and Chen Wei, all of whom played an important role in the fight against COVID-19, were shortlisted for national honorary titles, it added.

Support to HK

Seven virus testing professionals from the Chinese mainland arrived in Hong Kong on Sunday afternoon as the first batch of mainland supportive teams to help tackle a worsening spread of COVID-19.

The medical professionals, who will help with laboratory work, are members of a 60-strong nucleic acid testing team established recently at the request of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government for assistance in the battle against the epidemic. Hong Kong’s Center for Health Protection reported 115 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, the 12th consecutive day of more than 100 cases.

Mars probe

The probe of China’s first Mars mission, Tianwen-1, successfully carried out its first orbital correction on Sunrday morning, according to the China National Space Administration.

The probe completed the orbital correction at 7 a.m. after its 3000N engine worked for 20 seconds. It had flown for about 230 hours in space, traveling 3 million kilometers away from the Earth by the time of the first orbital correction. All of its systems were in good condition.

New career

A total of 96.1 percent of respondents in a recent survey said they are willing to attempt a new career if they had the opportunity, China Youth Daily reported.

The survey polled 2,000 Chinese aged 18 to 35, of which college students and this year’s gaokao attendees accounted for 45.8 percent and 27.3 percent respectively, in addition to 26.1 percent being working people. About 62.5 percent believed new occupations can inspire employees to expand their personal value and gain more perspective. (SD-Agencies)
