Students in Shenzhen wear school uniforms every day at school, but a group of students participating in the 2020 Shenzhen School Uniform Texture Creative Competition were given the opportunity to learn about the process of how uniforms are produced and to try their hands at making them. Organized by Daily Sunshine, the contestants on August 9 visited the Bennis Garment Company in Dalang Fashion Town in Longhua, and had a close look at the finished and semi-finished uniforms and learned about the production procedures, from design to processing to shipping. The Bennis Garment Company provides full support throughout the whole competition. The company is a uniform manufacturer that specializes in making all kinds of uniforms including traffic police uniforms, uniforms for safety supervision workers and urban management personnel, school uniforms and other fashion clothes. One of the highlights of this event was an experiment in the water permeability of uniforms and water resistance of cloth and materials, which was instructed by the company’s Chief Quality Officer Chen Yilin. Chen told the reporters that Bennis has long realized the problem that old materials easily get smelly in summer when there is sweat. To solve this problem, the company used a new material — a 100 percent permanent moisture absorption and quick-drying fiber that is also antibacterial. Divided into three groups, 15 outstanding contestants took part in a three-day social practice involving brainstorming and trying experiments to put forward solutions to the problems of uniform materials. The jury selected the first (2,000 yuan, US$288), second (1,000 yuan) and third prize (500 yuan) winners based on the students’ presentations. (Yang Mei) |
