’Cyber Police’
    2020-08-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Li Zhao, Class 9, Senior1, Shenzhen Foreign Languages School

With the development of the Internet, attaining information and making comments are becoming increasingly convenient. When people surf the Internet, they acquire information that is either valuable or valueless. After that, some people just memorize useful information and move their fingers to switch pages, while others start typing on the keyboard and make comments on those events. However, nowadays, an inharmonious phenomenon in the comment section is occurring.

In recent years, netizens making comments on the Internet seem to be very careful. It is fine if people make pleasant comments, but if people carelessly make some unpleasant comments, there are usually no good consequences from them. Now there are many so-called “cyber police” on the Internet, who carry the keyboard of justice and are ready to “police” at any time. They hide in every corner of the network: Video websites have them, music websites have them, and even learning websites have them. They usually claim that they maintain the network order under the flag of justice, but in fact, they are full of swear words, regardless of black and white, right or wrong, causing bitter quarrels as well as cyber violence, and make the network world a pool of turbid water.

Why do “cyber police” exist? The first reason is the lack of supervision in cyberspace. Most websites lack strict supervision and audit, and there are no professionals to deal with disputes when they happen. The second reason is that people lack the consciousness of seeking common ground while reserving differences. It is impossible for everyone to hold the same opinion, so they may quarrel because of disagreement. The third reason is that “cyber police” think they stand on the moral high ground and can criticize others. They superficially believe that their values are the most correct and try to force others to accept their own views.

How can we deal with this problem? First, each website should dispatch specific personnel to manage the comment sections and remove improper comments in time. In this way, the conflicts on the Internet will be effectively reduced. Second, people should learn to show respect. Third, there is an undoubtable fact that everyone has different values, and everyone is equal in cyberspace, and no one is nobler than others.

As long as “cyber police” realize this, the network world will become more harmonious.
