SOUTHERN University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) enrolled 1,097 students from 22 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities for the year 2020, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

A total of 43,000 students had applied for the university, whose enrollment is comprised of the result of the National College Entrance Examinations (NCEE) that accounts for 60 percent of the total grade, an independent test organized by the university, making up 30 percent of the grade, and high school aptitude test, 10 percent.

Among the new applicants to the university, the number of top 1,000 students in the NCEE of each province has increased.

The university enrolled 205 students from Guangdong Province, including 103 from Shenzhen.

In another development, this was the second year for Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) to enroll students independently. Though the number of students that the university plans to enroll from Guangdong has been doubled to 1,355 for the year 2020, the threshold for enrollment has not been lowered. In Guangdong, science students with 553 points or above for NCEE results are eligible for enrollment to SZTU. These students are placed ahead of 52,583 places in the NCEE in Guangdong, DT news app reported.

In terms of university placements for the 2020 enrollment, the university ranks ninth following Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, Jinan University, South China Normal University, Shenzhen University, Southern Medical University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Shantou University.

In Guangdong Province, 788,000 students took the NCEE this year. (Han Ximin)
