Does technology get in the way of learning?
    2020-08-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Wang Juntong, Class 12, Senior 1, Shenzhen Xin’an Middle School Instructed by Tang Ying

I think technology is beneficial for learning. With the rapid development of science and technology, more and more new technology has appeared. It shows our society’s progress. Does technology get in the way of learning? I think it has more advantages than disadvantages.

In the old days teachers gave lessons using chalk and blackboards under dark light, only speaking at the top of their voices without a microphone.

Thus, teachers would easily get exhausted after a day’s teaching. Some students could not listen clearly, and therefore it resulted in poor teaching quality.

At present, the situation has changed a lot. Teachers teach using multi-media and computers. They speak through a microphone that makes students listen clearly even if they speak in a low voice, which is especially vital for students sitting in the last row of the classroom.

Teachers can use the computer and PPTs to show pictures and knowledge to help students understand effectively and easily. In addition, the teachers mark test papers scanned and stored in the computer instead of using their pens to mark one by one.

Then, the computer can be used to analyze data accurately. Furthermore, it will tell the teacher who did correctly and who did wrong, which can help them to target those difficult exam items to improve their teaching efficiency.

Students many years ago could only use a paper dictionary to look up new words that they didn’t know. However, now we can surf the Internet to get answers immediately, which saves a lot of time.

On the other hand, when our busy tasks make us tired, we can surf the internet to listen to pleasing music or talk through WeChat with our family members and friends to make us relaxed and comfortable.

However, new technology is destroying some teenagers who cannot control themselves. Because they are stuck in playing computer games, it is hard for them to concentrate on listening to teachers in class during their school time.

To sum up, new technology can be very helpful for us to study, but if we cannot control ourselves, it will destroy us.
