TENCENT’S new drama “A Murderous Affair in Horizon Tower” has topped Chinese reviewing website Douban’s weekly TV series list since its premiere Aug. 19. The 16-episode Chinese series, earning 8.2 out of 10 scores on Douban, serves up some strong Cluedo-esque vibes in what promises to be a whodunit suspense drama. The first episode shows a distinctive retro visual style and a warm color palette reminiscent of a Jean-Pierre Jeunet sort of production along the lines of French favorite film, “Amelie.” Guo Tao and Yang Zishan star as a detective duo in this drama adapted from Chen Xue’s 2015 novel, “The Skyscraper.” It centers on the intricate relationships among a building’s residents and the murder of a mysterious woman, a coffee shop owner played by Angelababy.(SD-Agencies) |
