Impression of COVID-19
    2020-09-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Jimbo Huang, Class 6, Hyde School, Instructed by Ye Yanmin

When I stepped into Hyde School’s gate, I was relieved. In the past months, we had experienced so much for us to understand; it is the COVID-19. There had been rumors spreading online and even discrimination upon different races and between countries since the beginning of the virus.

What’s even worse is that the virus could be very devastating and couldn’t be controlled if humans were ignoring it and didn’t take the responsibility to combat the virus. It is absolutely depressing as it caused a lot of deaths. It is not a simple fight and it won’t be the last epidemic fight in our human history.

We can find some consequences throughout these challenges. First, as it was called “challenges,” it was not easy for people to recognize the harm of the virus immediately. That is why the virus was able to spread out of the blue.

Second, there was the attitude of civilians and governments. It is easy for the people who didn’t know the exact truth to get panicked , as we saw so many deaths and rumors on the Internet that could have been fake.

We can see humanity in this fight. At first, when the virus seemed to spread in other countries, they did not think that it will all infect so many people so they did not focus on it. When the foreign countries get more and more people infected, they started complaining that China had been concealing the news. This is the result of arrogance, ignorance, neglect and discrimination.

No one would like to see a broken community as the shared future for mankind. We are in one world and we are fighting for a better life, for all of us, and we all have the responsibility to control the epidemic outbreak. It is not one or two countries; no country can avoid being infected and if we still don’t pay attention to it, the virus will only get worse instead of getting better.

It is easier to say than to do because when you are the ruler, you need things like enough money, enough resources, reasonable and right policies, enough civilians’ consensus and some pure luck. When you come back to the reality, you will find that you are not facing a simple virus, but humanity’s and the countries’ attitude toward it.

Take as an example, when the Ebolia virus occurred in Africa, there were only 120 doctors and 10 percent of them died. When the virus started there, they soon recognized what kind of virus it was.

However, they didn’t have the medical resources. A research center in the U.S. had about 1,000 scientists. That’s why poor standards can cause a lot difficulties too. It is hard, absolutely, but if we can do the real globalization approach and send medical assistance from foreign countries to countries in Africa which are in poor conditions, we can make a difference.

We must have the confidence that one day, we can combat the virus, and we can see the rainbow after the rain!

Humans are always facing different difficulties; it is easy to get one, but it is not easy to get rid of one. All the successes need hard work and we can have enough confidence and enough experience after facing so many challenges.

Our ancestors survived in severe situations long ago; they were always facing viruses, crises and wars. If a virus can make us all insane and mad, there will just be more and more challenges that we will have to face.
