The Guangming Culture and Art Center, a new cultural landmark for Guangming District, will open to the public Sept. 19. Themed “Enlighten the Future,” the opening ceremony will be held at the concert hall of the center, and will be highlighted with a concert to celebrate the opening of the center as well as the second anniversary of the establishment of Guangming District.

The China National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Li Xincao will join hands with prestigious pianist Li Yundi, tenor Shi Yijie and soprano Wu Bixia to present a high-quality music feast to the audience at the concert, which will be livestreamed. Follow the center’s WeChat account “GuangmingArtCenter” to get more information.

Pianist Li was propelled onto the international stage when he won first prize at the XIV Chopin International Piano Competition at the age of 18, becoming the youngest and first Chinese winner in the history of the renowned competition. Since then, he has been regarded as an international piano star, also a leading exponent of Chopin’s music. He will play Chopin’s “Andante Spianato et Grande Polonaise Brillante, Op. 22” at the concert.

Soprano Wu is renowned as a “nightingale with Chinese and Western vocal skills.” She is also a professor and doctoral supervisor at the China Conservatory of Music and will sing Offenbach’s “Les Oiseaux Dans La Charmille.”

Tenor Shi has won several international vocal competitions, including the Ferruccio Tagliavini International Singing Competition, the Toti dal Monte International Competition, the Festspielstadt Passau Competition and the Maria Caniglia International Singing Competition. He will sing Donizetti’s “Ah, Mes Amis.”

The China National Symphony Orchestra will also present the fourth movement of Dvorak’s “Symphony No. 9,” the second movement of Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique” and some Chinese pieces.

The art museum of the center will present two exhibitions, “Futurology of Art” (contemporary art) and “Shenzhen Memory” (photography), both of which will be open to the public from Sept. 19 to Dec. 15.
