THE first volume of the Encyclopedia for Hi-Tech Whys compiled by professors of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was released at the university Saturday, National Popular Science Day, offering readers a chance to learn about the latest cutting-edge technologies in an easy way.

Published by Guangdong Science and Technology Press, the series of books will not only answer questions about the development of the latest technologies, but also spark the interest and curiosity of learning about science and technology.

Chen Shiyi, SUSTech president and an academic of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said the compilation of the book not only answers the call of the era, but also shows the university’s mission to spread sciences and popularize sciences. A series of books for science popularization, they are easy to read and easy to understand, and Chen hopes the books can sow the seeds for students to love sciences.

At a ceremony Saturday, SUSTech signed an agreement with Southern Publishing and Media to publish more work in the popular science genre. The university also donated books to Shenzhen Library, the libraries of other universities in Shenzhen and schools affiliated to the universities.

The publication of the book is also regarded as a special tribute to the 10th anniversary of the university this year.
