‘Bad Education’ wins at Creative Arts Emmys
    2020-09-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

“BAD Education” picked up the win for outstanding television movie at Saturday night’s Creative Arts Emmys ceremony.

The film beat out “American Son,” “Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings: These Old Bones,” “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. The Reverend” in the category, which has typically been part of the primetime broadcast but was moved to the Creative Arts portion for the first time. Hugh Jackman is also nominated for his role in the film in the lead actor in a limited series or movie category, which will be presented in the main Emmy Awards telecast Sunday night.

“Black Mirror” has won for TV movie the last three straight years but was ineligible in 2020. The category has become increasingly muddled in recent years, with contenders ranging from biopics and topical dramas that have historically made up its bread and butter to interactive specials and postscript films added onto traditional series as finales.

Meanwhile, “The Last Dance,” ESPN’s documentary series about Michael Jordan’s final year with the Chicago Bulls, won the Emmy for outstanding documentary or nonfiction series at the awards.

The 10-hour series chronicles Jordan’s basketball career, with a focus on the 1997-98 season, where he would win a sixth NBA championship in his final year with the Bulls. It featured a trove of previously unreleased film about that season, shot by the NBA but controlled by Jordan, who gave his OK to use the footage and also sat for extensive interviews.

The Primetime Emmys will follow on Sunday, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.(SD-Agencies)
