Subsidies for basic research projects
    2020-09-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN will offer 659 million yuan (US$96 million) in subsidies to 302 projects in basic research in the year 2020, according to a list released by the Shenzhen Municipal Science, Technology and Innovation Commission recently.

The projects involve research in electronic information, biology and ecological and environmental conservation, intelligent equipment, materials and energy.

The beneficiaries of the subsidies are a dozen higher learning institutions including Shenzhen University, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenzhen Polytechnic, as well as graduate schools of some well-known universities like Peking University, Tsinghua University, Harbin Institute of Technology and Sun Yat-sen University.

In addition, dozens of research institutes and medical institutions like Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen Agriculture Genomics Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shenzhen People’s Hospital and Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention are on the list.

The research project GaNpower and radio frequency components manufacturing technologies and its partner SUSTEch get a subsidy of 2.5 million yuan. The research project of MEMS technology-based faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter (FADOF) of Shenzhen-Hong Kong Industry, Education and Research Base, and the project on the mechanism of neural circuit and intervention strategy by Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention will each receive a subsidy of 3 million yuan.

Application for the subsidies was initiated in December last year. (Han Ximin)
