Incentives for innovators, skill contestants

TALENTED people who have made contributions to the city’s industrial development and self-dependent innovation can apply for awards up to 1.5 million yuan (US$220,000), an application guidance released at the latest Shenzhen Municipal Government Gazette showed recently.

The applicants can apply through their companies or institutions that have passed accreditation as enterprises in the city’s strategic newly emerged industries or modern service industries that are encouraged by the government, as well as headquarters enterprises, higher learning institutions or research institutes.

The applicants should be executives in their companies or institutions, intermediate-level management personnel in headquarter companies, leading researchers at higher learning institutions or institutes, or responsible for city-level key research projects.

Applicant eligibility also extends to the city’s high-level professionals whose certificates are still valid in 2020, high-level professionals or teams from overseas, and team leaders, core members or project managers who have received fund supports from innovation and entrepreneurship from the city government.

The applicants can apply online at: https://hrsspub.sz.gov.cn/rcyth/website/#/type, the official website of the Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau and upload applications by Oct. 15.

In another development, the city’s human resources bureau, in cooperation with the Shenzhen Municipal Finance Bureau, has worked out incentives to encourage participation in WorldSkills Competition.

Incentives include subsidies to training bases for selection and training, varying from 150,000 yuan, 300,000 yuan to 500,000 yuan.

According to the regulations, the contestants who win medals and their coaching teams will each get an award of 1 million yuan, 600,000 yuan, 400,000 yuan or 200,000 yuan, depending on the prizes they received, i.e. gold, silver, bronze to excellence.

After completing the training, the contestants and coaching teams can receive daily subsidies of 100 yuan, 200 yuan and 300 yuan, according to their training levels. The total subsidy for each contestant is no more than 10,000 yuan, 20,000 yuan and 30,000 yuan.

The WorldSkills Competition is a biennial event. Shenzhen has participated in the event since 2015. At the 45th World Skills Competition in Kazan, Russia, 2019, Shenzhen won one silver medal in 3D Digital Games Category, and an excellence prize in the Graphic Design Category.

Chinese contestants participated in all of the 56 categories in six sections in 2019, which included transportation and logistics, structure and architecture, manufacturing and engineering technologies, information and telecommunications, creative arts and fashion, and social and personal services. The Chinese team won 16 gold, 14 silver and five bronze medals in the competition.
