The First National Video Creativity Competition for College Students is now collecting works from teachers and students of colleges and universities, according to an announcement made at a press conference held at the Communication University of China in Beijing on October 9. The competition is an event hosted by the 11th China International New Media Short Film Festival (CSFF). It is the first time that the short film festival is calling for entries under the name and brand of “National Video Creativity Competition for College Students.” Huang Xinyuan, dean of the School of Animation and Digital Arts of the Communication University of China, believes that the short film festival serves as a great platform for college students to display their video works. Wang Liya, deputy secretary-general of CSFF’s organizing committee, said CSFF has been striving to support young directors and hopes to leverage the resources brought by the platform to university teaching and talent cultivation. According to Wang, since the competition for college students was started in 2017, 12 student directors from colleges and universities have won awards in this competition, and the award-winning directors now have broader development prospects. According to the organizer, the number of individual awards has been increased from three to seven, and the number of awards winners increased to 100. It also takes into account the professional and popular aspects, which will heighten the popularity of new media short videos and the status of the stream industry. The CSFF is a national-level event hosted by the State Administration of Radio and Television and the Shenzhen Municipal Government and undertaken by Shenzhen Media Group. After 10 years of development, the festival has become one of the most important international short film festivals recognized by the domestic and foreign film industries. (Yang Mei) |
