A CHINESE boy measuring 2.21 meters has applied for a Guinness world record as the world’s tallest male teenager.

Ren Keyu, 14, is a junior high school student from the city of Leshan, southwest China’s Sichuan Province. An officer with the Guinness World Records visited Ren in Leshan on Sunday, which was also Ren’s birthday. The challenge began in the People’s Hospital in Leshan. According to the rules, the challenger needs to be between 13 and 18 years old. The previous record-holder has already passed the age limit.

Authorities measured Ren’s height at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Sunday, and got a result of 221 cm, 221.1 cm and 221 cm, respectively, according to Li Song, a doctor with the hospital who helped measure Ren’s height.

The measurement result will possibly make Ren the new record-holder after it passes evaluations at the London headquarters of the Guinness World Records. The result is expected to be announced in November.

The previous record-holder of the world’s tallest male teenager was Kevin Bradford from the United States. He was born on Oct. 27, 1998, with a height of 215.9 cm measured in 2015. The previous record-holder of the world’s tallest female teenager was Rumeysa Gelgi from Turkey. Born on Jan. 1, 1997, she was measured to be 213.6 cm tall in 2014.
