THE Fourth Oriental Cup Chinese Calligraphy Contest for the International Community kicked off at Shenzhen Oriental Art Gallery in Futian District on Wednesday. The contest is now collecting calligraphy works from expats living in China.

The contest is hosted by Futian’s publicity department and Shenzhen Oriental Art Gallery and is funded by the Special Funds to Promote Cultural and Sports Development of Futian District, aiming to carry forward traditional Chinese culture, promote global cultural exchanges, and provide a stage for foreigners to exchange and display their Chinese calligraphy talent.

Zhong Fanfei, founder and chairman of Shenzhen Oriental Art Gallery, said that over the past three years, the contest has become a cultural name card of Shenzhen and has been attended by more and more foreigners.

“We will continue to innovate and enrich the form and content of the contest to attract more foreign friends to participate in this cultural event,” Zhong said.

An organizing committee consisting of calligraphy experts will review the works and select one first prize, two second prizes, three third prizes, 20 honorable mentions, and three special honorary awards.

An award ceremony will be held in January 2021 and the prize winners will receive a bonus of 10,000 yuan (US$1,497), 5,000 yuan, 3,000 yuan, and 600 yuan, respectively. The special honorary award winners will be presented trophies, rather than prize money.

The shortlisted works will be exhibited at Shenzhen Oriental Art Gallery.

The deadline for artwork submission is Dec. 10. Calligraphers can visit the WeChat public account “szdfartmuseum” to get more detailed information about the contest.
