A MAN has said he has to take proof of identification everywhere he goes — even when he attended the birth of his son — as people assume he’s pulling a prank when he tells them his name. Jimmy Korona, from Stoke-on-Trent, the U.K., says he had never previously had a problem with his surname, but since the outbreak of coronavirus he’s experienced that delivery drivers, bar staff and even doctors fail to take him seriously. The 38-year-old even had to show ID to medics at the birth of his son because they refused to believe baby Korona’s name was serious. He says he’s had people laughing at him in the pub and had deliveries questioned as companies ask if his name — which is Polish — is a prank. The construction worker and his fiancée Lauren welcomed a baby boy during the pandemic and after naming him Jimmy Joseph Korona, the new dad had to prove the surname was real to disbelieving doctors who assumed he named his son “as a joke.” He says his grandfather, Jozef Korona, was a survivor of a concentration camp in Germany during the World War II. The grandfather then landed in Meir in Stoke-on-Trent, where he worked in the mines and met Jimmy’s grandmother. (SD-Agencies) |
